How YOU Can Help!

WE DESPERATELY NEED ART/CRAFT AND STATIONARY MATERIALS, WOOD WORK TOOLS AND COMPUTERS FOR THE BRAND NEW FOUNDATIONS FOR LIFE CENTRE. WORK THAT THE PUPILS ARE ABLE TO UNDERTAKE IS SEVERELY LIMITED AT PRESENT BECAUSE OF LACK OF EQUIPMENT. (Ed. 19.12.07)

To transport a lorry to Romania means we need to fundraise GBP 3,000. Do you know someone with a large lorry who would be willing to drive the goods lorry to Romania and raise the funds to cover the expense? Do you think you can raise GBP 3,000?

Can you provide any items on the 'Resource Lists' page, or know of a school, college, workplace or other such institution that may be refurbishing, replacing equipment? Unwanted woodwork benches, sewing desks and other fitted equipment can be removed and collected by ourselves. If you think you may have suitable equipment please contact us (see contact page) and we will inform you of the venue and date for delivering your item/s either in the Haywards Heath, West Sussex area or straight to Biggin Hill, Kent.

Would you like to donate money so that we can purchase some of the equipment for the centre ourselves. We are currently looking for donations towards the refurbishment of the Robert Cole Centre garage which will be used to store the two mini-buses. See the contact page for details on cheque payments.

Can you fundraise by making and selling hand made craft items by hosting a garden party or other event?

Can you design and donate some art work to go into the various rooms or to sell to raise funds?

Can you volunteer to collect and sort donated goods, load the lorry at Biggin Hill or/and go out to Romania to deliver family and shoeboxes at the beginning of December for a week?

Finally but most importantly we ask that you pray for the success of the centre and for all of the staff and children who will be using it.

How Others Have Helped!

Fund Raising and Donation: Lyn Jenkins and Sue Bagley are two of a group based in Barclays House, Poole involved with the BHRG. Lyn has been out to Comanesti over the last two Xmas to help with the Shoebox distribution and also went out in May 2006 for the Family box distribution. She is going out to help set up the Foundations for Life Centre in February 2007 and sent £500 to the fund following winning an award at her place of work. Sue organised a cake stall at the Barclays House group on Friday 15th October resulting in five tables of cakes which apparently still wasn't enough room to display all of them! The total amount raised was £645 which will be matched £ for £ by Barclays, so giving a Grand total of £1290 towards The Foundation for Life Centre.

Making up Shoeboxes on Mass and Collecting Equipment: Also at Barclays Sue is organising the group for the shoebox appeal and put a wanted notice on the board, with a shoebox display, for the items required - there are over 2000 people working in the building so they expect to get some donations - and believe they may already have some sewing machines. Lyn is putting together a box of consumables for the centre and they are transporting items they collect to Biggin Hill.

Donating Large Unwanted Office Furniture: Barclays Bank are donating an extensive amount of unwanted furniture to the centre including sofa's, book shelves and cabinets, tables and notice boards.

Donated IT Equipment and Instigating Local Art College Involvement: Lyn is also planning on contacting a local arts college (Poole and Bournemouth) to see if they would like a challenge to transform one of the rooms! She has got together a large number of sewing patterns, 3 colour printers and a scanner, a CD player and is now looking into the possibility of pottery wheels and equipment and a TV and video.

Council Furniture Rescued: Natalie owns 'The Wigmore Hairdressers', Mayfair has donated a wooden table, 6 chairs, 2 bedside cabinets, a television stand, lamps, curtains and a wooden bench. Her partner is a builder working for local Councils and renovates council property. He often has household goods that he is asked to dispose of and will now be donating required goods from the resource lists to the charity.

Contacting Local Businesses for Aid and Donations: Mabs and Mick Richardson in Haywards Heath have volunteered to contact local businesses and organisations to highlight the project. So far 'Carusel Music' have donated sheet music, 'Baldwins Fabrics' have donated design books, 'Mansell Mctaggart Estate Agents' have offered computers and 'Brewers Builders' have donated money. Having asked the neighbours to rummage through their lofts and garages, they have also come up with electric tools and sewing materials.

Fundraising through Companies: Jan Short found that since the recent publicity concerning the plight of the children in Romania some of her friends are showing more interest than usual in the work that BHRG do in Comanesti.

So far Jan has managed to source 30 PC's for the centre.

Support from Christian Organisations: Clare and Phil Williams's Home Group sought permission from All Saints Church to support BHRG as their chosen Mission focus and announced this to Clare and Phil at the first meeting. Two members of the group, Karen and Stewart Hornby, travelled as part of the team for the set up week in February 2007.

Help with Transporting Equipment and Loading the Lorry: Penny Hann and Barry Goswell provided a van which transported goods free of charge. This eliminated the need and cost to hire rental vans and was a much needed practical way to help. They also braved the pouring rain to help load the November lorry.

Pottery Wheels:Ken Brown and Oakdale School provided two pottery wheels for the Art Room.

Musical Scores: Poole Music Shop supplied a large selection of musical scores and books for the Music Room.

Charity Donation:WBS Training-Neil Fowler have donated almost £1,000 to the charity.
